The Crown Maker Opera

Eva Castellanoz from Nyssa, Oregon is one of the featured Latinos on the permanent outdoor display at Vale’s Grand Opera House. In partnership with The Portland Opera, the Drexel Foundation is bringing The Crown Maker, to the Vale Rex Theater. A FREE Opera about the life of Eva Castellano. This show is targeted towards youth and families.

The Crown Maker Summary: Eva Castellanoz worked the fields alongside her parents after immigrating from Mexico–but that was before she discovered her true calling–she was a crown maker. Through her heritage and artistry, she became a healer, binding the hearts of her community while surviving heartbreak of her own.

The opera style is corrido, a traditional Mexican narrative ballad about struggles. The Crown Maker blends poetry, history, and music to celebrate Eva Castellanoz’s community leadership, use of art, healing traditions, and activism. She shaped our local community. The Four Rivers Culture Center world premiere is Nov. 7th 2026, with Nyssa High School also having a performance. Both are paid admission shows. The Drexel Foundation has budgeted for a FREE show here in Vale Nov 11 at 6:30 pm, for those who want to attend.
